PCOA WANTS YOUR UNWANTED CELL PHONES

Pima Council on Aging is collecting used and unwanted cell phones with their batteries attached as a new fund-raising opportunity to benefit our services. We accept all kinds of phones; older analog phones are not as valuable to redeem as digital ones but we want as many phones as we can get. This can be a continual source of revenue to us. Please bring your used cell phones to the PCOA office at 8467 E. Broadway, north side behind Vantage West.

We thank those of you who have been supporting this fund-raising drive.

Give-A-Car

purplecar.gif (4021 bytes)By donating your car, truck, boat, motorcycle or trailer, you receive a tax donation while directly helping to bring Pima Meals on Wheels and a friendly visitor into the homes of frail older persons. Each year donors to this program extend PCOA's ability to provide this vital service to Pima County's most vulnerable older citizens. Call Jan Baker for further information to Give-A-Car, at 790-0504.

Gifts, Wills and Estate Plans

Reviewing wills and estate plans periodically for changes in your family circumstances and personal wishes, of course, is strongly recommended. As you revise your will or estate plans, we hope that you will consider supporting the Pima Council on Aging. Your commitment and the commitment of others to assist in the provision of critical services for older adults and their families is crucial for the future for our community. For more information about our Planned Giving program or Annuity program, call 790-0504 ext 5043 and talk to Bob Kirkpatrick.

HOST Program (Helping Other Seniors Trust)

The HOST Program is designed to help older adults (those who "fall between the cracks") who have needs and nowhere else to turn. This fund was begun by a woman in our community who felt that the money she received from Social Security could be put to better use in helping others. Through PCOA she has committed a monthly sum to the program, and many others have since volunteered to contribute various amounts whenever possible.

The fund began in 1991 with three or four regular donors assisting 14 recipients. Since then, HOST has been able to provide a one time assist for over 600 individuals with a specific problem situation. Bills are paid or services purchased; no money is given directly to the recipient. Additional dollars would provide assistance to many more elderly persons who find themselves in difficult and sometimes critical circumstances.
