Aging organizations brace for federal budget battles

Soon after the Nov. 6 election, the focus in Washington will shift dramatically to the federal budget. In a "lame duck" session, Congress will consider possible across-the-board cuts, tax issues, and an "extenders" package of expiring health provisions. NCOA chairs the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations (LCAO), which has calculated the cuts' impact on vulnerable seniors and adopted federal budget principles to guide advocacy efforts on what could be historic reductions in funding for senior programs.

The Centers for Desease Control and Prevention (CDC) and leading health experts recommend that everyone 6 months of age and older get an annual immunization as the best way to help protect themselves from influenza. Vaccination is especially important for adults 65 and older because they are at higher risk for developing flu related complications. Find a Flu Shot

New Report: Most Aging Baby Boomers Will Face Poor Mobility Options

By 2015, more than 15.5 million Americans 65 and older will live in communities where public transportation service is poor or non-existent, a new study shows.
