Guardianship is a legal process in which the court determines that an individual is not capable of making decisions for themselves and needs protection. Guardianship protects against self abuse. Some reasons for becoming a guardian may be that the older adults has issues deciding the appropriate basic needs like food and shelter, making decisions about their medical treatments, or has a cognitive issues that leads to unsafe decision making.
